Welcome to our practice
Like a pediatrician or internist, a Family Practitioner is a specialist. After medical school and obtaining an M.D. degree, the Family Practitioner spends three years in a Residency Program. Training is obtained in pediatrics, internal medicine, psychiatry, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and family medicine.
Your provider is uniquely trained to care for you as a whole person, regardless of your age or sex. In addition to diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, your family physician provides routine health screenings and counseling on lifestyle changes in an effort to prevent illnesses before they develop. And, if a health condition arises that requires care from another specialist, your family physician will be there to guide you and to coordinate all aspects of your care. You and your family physician will work together to achieve the best possible outcome in the most cost-effective manner.
What is a Physician Assistant (PA-C)?
A Physician Assistant is a health care professional
licensed to practice medicine under physician supervision. Common services
provided
by a PA include taking medical histories and performing physical examinations;
ordering and interpreting lab tests; diagnosing and treating illnesses;
assisting in surgery; prescribing and/or dispensing medication; and
counseling patients. Certification indicates that the PA has passed
the national standardized test of competency. The Physician Assistants
at The Family Doctor are licensed by the NC Board of Medical Examiners.
